 The Indian automotive market has witnessed a remarkable stride towards sustainable mobility with Tata Motors’ recent introduction of the updated Tata Tigor EV 2023. This electric sub-compact sedan has undergone substantial enhancements, sporting an extended driving range, vibrant color options, additional variants, and an array of new features. A notable shift lies under the hood of the Tigor EV 2023 with Tata’s advanced Ziptron powertrain taking center stage. Boasting a 26kWh battery capacity, a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the Xpress-T, this powertrain’s highlight is its fast-charging capability. Using a 25kW DC charger, it achieves an 80 percent charge in just 60 minutes, while a standard 15A plug point takes approximately 7.5 hours to reach the same level.

Tata claims an ARAI-certified range of 315 kilometers for the Tigor EV 2023, though initial real-world range assessments hover close to 200 kilometers — ideal for daily urban commutes but potentially limited for extended travel. As the battery depletes below 25 percent, power reduction occurs to optimize the remaining energy, a standard feature in electric vehicles.

Available in four distinct variants — XE, XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Lux — the Tata Tigor EV 2023 comes with competitive pricing ranging from Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 13.75 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned uniquely in the market, it indirectly competes with other Tata EV models like the Tiago EV and Nexon EV.

Behind the wheel, the Tigor EV offers a distinct electric driving experience, featuring improved but measured acceleration. The Sport mode, leveraging the 75 Hp and 170 Nm electric motor, offers brisk acceleration compared to the standard Drive mode’s steadiness, catering well to city driving while conserving battery charge.

However, its handling and regenerative braking present a mixed bag, with competent steering, adequate tire grip, and a 4-star Global NCAP crash rating enhancing safety.

Inside, the cabin resembles its petrol-powered counterpart, featuring a rotary drive selector knob and an all-digital display offering essential information. The electric blue accents add flair, while the equipment includes touchscreen infotainment, connected car features, automatic climate control, and a Harman audio system, prioritizing comfort and convenience.

The boot space has been impacted due to battery placement, reducing capacity to 316 liters, while the exterior maintains its sharp design with electric blue accents.

Packed with multi-mode regenerative braking, connected car technology, and safety features, the Tata Tigor EV 2023 emerges as a commendable and budget-friendly electric sedan suitable for urban commuting, aligning well with the ongoing push for EV adoption in India.
