Tata Motors, a leading Indian automotive manufacturer, has once again proven its commitment to sustainable mobility by introducing the updated Tata Tigor EV 2024. This electric sub-compact sedan has received several noteworthy enhancements, including an extended driving range, fresh color options, additional variants, and a host of new features.

Talking About The Ziptron Powertrain

The most significant change in the Tigor EV 2024 lies under the hood with the introduction of Tata’s advanced Ziptron powertrain. This powertrain boasts a battery capacity of 26kWh, a notable upgrade compared to its predecessor, the Xpress-T, which came with two smaller battery options of 16.5kWh and 21.5kWh.

What sets the Tata Tigor EV 2024 apart is its ability to be fast-charged. With a 25kW DC charger, it can charge to 80 percent in just 60 minutes. Alternatively, using a standard 15A plug point, it takes approximately 7 hours and 30 minutes to achieve the same charge level

Tata Tigor EV On-Road Experience: Balanced and Comfortable

Behind the wheel, the Tigor EV 2024 offers a distinctive electric driving experience compared to its commercial-focused counterpart, the Xpress-T. While not as electrifying as larger and more expensive ones, the Tigor EV delivers improved performance. However, it lacks the instant torque surge typically associated with electric vehicles. Acceleration is steady and sedate, particularly in the standard Drive mode. To tap into peppy acceleration, the Sport mode is the go-to choice, fully utilizing the 75 Hp and 170 Nm electric motor. Tata intentionally designed the system for measured acceleration, apt for city driving while preserving battery charge.

Tata Tigor EV 2024 takes 13 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in Sport mode, while the time stretched to a slower 27 seconds in Drive mode. Regenerative braking is available but falls short of the strong regen levels seen in other EVs. Throttle lift-off braking resembles that of conventional internal combustion engine cars. However, the regen intensity is not adjustable, largely due to the smaller motor’s limited regeneration capacity.

It maintains composure over rough terrain and potholes, offering a reassuring drive. Grip from the 175-section tires is ample for typical driving scenarios, though tire noise at high speeds is noticeable.

Tata Tigor EV Interior and Infotainment

Inside the cabin, the Tata Tigor EV 2024 closely resembles its petrol-powered counterpart, with a few notable differences. The gear lever has been replaced by a rotary drive selector knob, offering easy operation. However, shifting directly from Reverse to Drive requires passing through Neutral, causing a minor inconvenience during quick maneuvers. Transitioning from Drive to Sport mode is swift.

The instrument panel receives a makeover, featuring an all-digital display. While it lacks advanced EV-related data like battery graphs, it provides essential information such as range, regen level, battery percentage, and consumption. Electric blue accents throughout the cabin of the new Tigor EV, on elements like the instrument panel, AC vents, and seat fabric, lend a tasteful touch to the interior.

Despite a few compromises in material quality, typical of EVs in its price range, the Tigor EV impresses with its equipment. It includes a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, automatic climate control, a reverse camera, connected car features, and a high-quality Harman audio system. The seats offer comfort, although the cushioning is on the softer side. Spaciousness is a strong suit, with ample head and legroom.

Tata Tigor EV Boot Space and Exterior Design

The Tigor EV boot space is a noteworthy consideration. Due to the battery placement beneath the floor, the boot’s floor height has increased, accommodating the relocated spare tire. This change reduces the boot capacity from 419 liters to 316 liters. However, the spare tire’s neatly integrated placement ensures that the available space remains functional. Tigor EV maintains its ground clearance at 172mm, slightly higher than its ICE counterpart.

In terms of exterior design, the Tata Tigor EV 2024 shares the sharp aesthetics of the standard Tigor, with a distinctive flat panel replacing the traditional grille, electric blue accents, and unique rim designs, all highlighting its electric identity.
